International Women in Engineering Day 2022

Hello, my name is Patricia Cabanillas and I am a biomedical engineer with a European Joint Master’s degree in Medical Image Analysis.

For the last year, I have been working as a Clinical Data Scientist at Dedalus Healthcare in Belgium.

My main tasks in this role are to help develop, improve, and evaluate an AI-based clinical risk prediction product.

What do you like about your career in an Engineering/STEM role?
What I love most about my career is applying cutting-edge technology to impact positively on society, especially, the lives of doctors and patients.

What attracted you to a career in Engineering/STEM?
I have always been passionate about medicine and engineering. So, my choice was clear when I discovered a profession that combined both fields.

Why is it important for you to have diversity within your team?
Having a diverse team creates a richer mix of backgrounds, ideas, cultures, and experiences, allowing the team to be more productive, innovative, and tolerant.

What advice do you give to females wanting to join a career in Engineering/STEM?
The road can be tough, and you may feel discouraged at times, but it is important to keep believing in yourself and your abilities. If you keep fighting for your dreams, they will come true in the end.
