Making the ambulance handover count: Dedalus achieves Level 3 conformance
Dedalus is the first supplier to achieve Level 3 conformance, the highest level, with the PRSB Ambulance Handover to Emergency Care Standard, scoring 80.3% for OneResponse. Working with PRSB and North West Ambulance Service, Dedalus tested the standard in real workflows, helping information follow the patient to the emergency department.
Dedalus has become the first supplier to achieve conformance with the PRSB Ambulance Handover to Emergency Care Standard, supporting accurate ambulance-to-hospital information sharing.
It has reached Level 3, the highest level, with a score of 80.3%, for OneResponse Mobile EPR and OneResponse Management. For Dedalus, the achievement reflects a simple idea: capture information once and make it available everywhere it’s needed in the pathway.
“As an ED clinician, I know the importance of receiving accurate, structured information at the point of care,” said Dr Bishoy Dimitri, Chief Clinical Information Officer and Clinical Director UKI at Dedalus. “Achieving PRSB Ambulance Handover conformance reinforces our commitment to improving patient safety through nationally recognised standards.”
Collaborating on a standard that works in the cab, not just on paper
Working with PRSB and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) using real-world workflows enabled Dedalus to identify product changes that could enhance application of the standard. Seeing the standard used with a real ambulance EPR showed how the standard itself could evolve.
Oliver Lake, PRSB CEO, said: “Over the past 18 months, Dedalus has worked closely with us, sharing valuable feedback and practical suggestions that have helped us refine and strengthen the standard, ensuring it works effectively for ambulance services.”
Using standards and technology to provide the right information at the right time
APIs and FHIR enable data exchange, information standards define what it means. Using the standard means information can flow safely and consistently between ambulance services and receiving organisations. Medications given, tests carried out and allergies are all visible in the emergency department’s own system, giving health and care professionals the right information at the right time to support the people they care for.
Mark Rearden, Director of Digital Solutions, Dedalus UKI, said: “Healthcare transformation depends on trusted standards and seamless information sharing. Achieving PRSB Ambulance Handover Conformance reinforces our commitment to helping healthcare organisations connect people, systems, and data to improve outcomes for patients and clinicians alike.”
Why it matters for PRSB members and health technology suppliers
For ambulance services and emergency departments, conformance offers independent assurance that key clinical information is captured and structured consistently for handover. For suppliers, Dedalus’s experience shows a collaborative process leads to practical product improvements. As one of the very few suppliers connecting care across acute, ambulance, community, mental health and diagnostics, Dedalus sees nationally agreed standards as the foundation for information that follows the patient.
