From Apprentice to Nominee: My Journey with Dedalus’ Digital Solutions Team
Ben Dufton is a Software Tester at Dedalus and shares his journey with Dedalus and what it means to be part of the Digital Solutions team.
My previous life in Pharmacy
Prior to joining Dedalus, I had worked in various primary and secondary care roles in Pharmacy but a career change led me to embark on an incredible apprenticeship with Dedalus. Fast forward to today, and not only have I had the pleasure of working here since completing my apprenticeship, but I was recently honoured to be nominated for Software Tester of the Year at this year’s BCS IT Apprenticeship Awards 2024.
A brand-new world
Starting as an apprentice, I was eager to dive into the brand-new world of software testing. The hands-on experience I gained at Dedalus was unparalleled. From day one, I was immersed in real projects, working alongside a team of talented and supportive professionals. This environment not only honed my technical skills but also provided me with a solid foundation in problem-solving and critical thinking.
Each day is a new opportunity to grow
One of the aspects I love most about my role is how much I’ve grown, both professionally and personally. Over the past two years, my skills and knowledge have expanded significantly. Whether it’s mastering new testing tools, understanding complex software systems, or improving my analytical abilities, each day presents a new opportunity to learn and improve. This continuous growth has also translated into a boost in my confidence. I now approach challenges with a sense of assurance and enthusiasm, knowing that I have the capability and support to overcome them.

Being nominated for Software Tester of the Year was a moment of immense pride for me. It was a recognition not just of my hard work, but also of the incredible mentorship and resources provided by Dedalus. This nomination has motivated me to strive for even greater heights and to continue contributing to our team’s success.
Dedalus is more than just a workplace
Dedalus has been more than just a workplace for me; it’s been a place of growth, learning, and achievement. I have a great relationship with my team, inside and outside of the workplace. I have to credit much of my success to the support they have provided and I look forward to many more years of innovation and excellence with the Digital Solutions team at Dedalus.
