TERMINOLOGY SERVICES

Integrated Care requires Integrated and Connected Data

Healthcare is a data rich industry. Unfortunately, this data is often locked in siloed systems within local organisations that cannot easily be shared across the wider health and care system. One of the key barriers to sharing this data are differences in the codes and terminologies used by organisations to record key clinical data about their patients.

Dedalus’ Terminology Service, provided in partnership with NHS Digital and Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), addresses this problem by supporting the mapping of multiple local, national and international code sets including, for example SNOMED-CT.  The capabilities provided are key to enabling data from disparate systems to be safely and meaningfully exchanged between care providers, researchers, and service planners, enabling healthcare providers to record data once and share it across the NHS.

Key Benefits

  • Driving greater adoption of standard terminology across all health and care settings
  • Providing an API based service to allow technology vendors to more easily adopt and manage the adoption of terminologies into their solutions
  • Reducing the burden of use of standards in reporting (currently estimated to be £650m a year in the UK alone)
  • Providing an ecosystem around which local users can collaborate in a controlled way whilst working towards greater compliance with national standards
  • Ensuring a secure, reliable and robust environment that is fully managed
  • Driving down the cost and improve the outcomes of patient care by facilitating the opportunities for improved integration and interoperability
